Maura has an extensive background in primary science teaching and learning, having been a primary school teacher in Belfast for 28 years, 10 of which as co-ordinator for science and technology. She then worked for a further 10 years as an assistant adviser for Science and The World Around Us at the North Eastern Education and Library Board (NEELB).


She has provided support to coordinators, schools, colleges and universities. In addition, she has been an educational consultant for a range of bodies including the BBC, where she acted in an advisory capacity on some of their educational projects.


Maura now works as independent education consultant with the National Science Learning Centre (NSLC) based in York. As course leader, she is responsible for designing, preparing and delivering science courses to teachers in centres across Northern Ireland. Maura also delivers science and WAU inset training to a range of primary schools and cluster groups regionally and has written resource material for schools wishing to deliver STEM.


Maura has also worked for Sentinus – a local science provider, to host and judge STEM events.
