Bulb Project Preparation

BACK
We have been hard at work preparing for this year's Bulb Project! Each school receives all the equipment necessary to carry out the project. When we have a lot of schools taking part, that means a lot of resources! Take a look below to find out what goes on behind the scenes...

Each school gets a card with a garden centre voucher. The cards are specially designed and printed for the Bulb Project. Schools use their garden centre voucher to buy compost for the bulbs planted in pots.
The next step is packing up the plant labels. Schools get labels to mark each of their bulbs planted in the ground, so we put them into envelopes in sets of twenty - one envelope per school.
We print a lot of the paper resources in house. We need a lot of yellow ink for the daffodils, and cyan ink to make green! You can also find these resources on our website.
The Edina Trust signs are made with the help of Malcolm, who works for our sister charity, the Kirkhouse Trust. Malcolm shapes and prepares the wood in his workshop.
Once the top part of the signs are ready, they are varnished and then the Edina Trust Bulb Project logo is stencilled in ink. When they are dry, they will be fixed to the posts.
Each school receives a camera to take pictures during the project, recording their progress. Memory cards are included in the camera boxes.
We run a Photo Competition, where the schools involved in the project post photographs of their bulb plots to our Moodle blog or Twitter. The best pictures win prizes for their school grounds!
The resources are carefully packed up into boxes, ready to be sent out. Hopefully all this bubble wrap will protect everything, but if your school receives any damaged items please let us know.
Here are just a few of the boxes we prepared. We have to hope that the driver has enough space in his van for all of these!
National Museum Wales pack up all the bulbs - daffodils, crocuses, and of course the mystery bulbs!
Once the bulbs and pots are all packed up, National Museum Wales have lots of boxes to send out to schools all across the UK.
